Claims policy

“Made from recycled plastic” is incomplete if the content percentage, plastic type and part of the card are unknown. Our default wording names the card body, the material, the percentage and the source — for example: “Card body made from 100% post-consumer recycled PVC.”

  • No “I used to be a bottle” unless the supplier certifies recycled PET sourced from bottles.
  • No “100% recycled” smart card when the claim only covers the plastic body — chips, antennas, stripes and laminates are different materials.
  • Recycled content, recyclability, durability and reuse are separate claims, evidenced separately.
  • A supplier’s product page is enough to sample stock, not enough for a prominent claim. We hold the material certificate and the approved specification.

FAQs

Are recycled plastic cards really recycled?

Recycled PVC card stock is sold by UK suppliers with recycled-content claims. We only repeat a claim — and its percentage — when the supplier’s certificate for the stock we buy supports it.

Can recycled cards have NFC or a magnetic stripe?

Often, but the chip, antenna or stripe are different materials. We never describe a whole smart card as 100% recycled when the claim only covers the card body.

Is a rewritable card recycled?

Not necessarily. Rewritable cards reduce waste through reuse; that’s a different claim from recycled content.

Are recycled plastic cards recyclable?

Recycled content and recyclability are separate claims. Whether a finished card is accepted for recycling depends on the material and local facilities.
